He soon turned his work room into a sanctuary of gadgets and historical mysteries. This got him fired. Around the time of his firing, an immeasurably valuable ancient treasure disappeared from the university, which the researcher undoubtedly stole and hid among his equipment. You are detectives specializing in ancient mysteries with such an expensive hourly rate that the university can only afford to hire you for just an hour to find that treasure!
